TitleRECORDS OF THE 2nd BATTALION, THE ROYAL SUSSEX REGIMENT
AdminHistoryThe 2nd Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment, had its origins in the 107th Regiment of Foot. This had first been raised by the East India Company at Chinsurah in 1853, under the title of the 3rd Regiment of Bengal European Infantry, and was transferred to the British Army in 1861, after the Indian Mutiny, as the 107th (Bengal Infantry) Regiment. The 35th and 107th Regiments became linked in 1863, and in 1873 a common depot was established at Chichester. In 1881 the two Regiments were reconstituted to form the 1st Battalion and the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment. In 1948 the 1st and 2nd Battalions were amalgamated to form one Battalion called the 1st Battalion, The Royal Sussex Regiment
