TitleRegimental Journals: The Journal of The Queen's Regiment
DescriptionThe journal contains news of the proceedings of the individual battalions of The Queen's Regiment, including the 3rd Battalion which superseded the 1st Battalion of The Royal Sussex Regiment, and items of interest from the various Regimental Headquarters, including the Royal Sussex Office which was retained at the Roussillon Barracks in Chichester. It is therefore important as a source of information on the service of the successor of The Royal Sussex Regiment and on the activities of The Royal Sussex Regimental Association, but it is less concerned with the publication of notes and articles on regimental history than the Roussillon Gazette.
The series in this collection is complete up to date. The series is not indexed, but there is a list of contents at the beginning of each issue. The volumes are unbound.
AdminHistoryThe Queen's Regiment was formed on 31 December 1966 from The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment, The Queen's Own Buffs The Royal Kent Regiment, The Middlesex Regiment, and The Royal Sussex Regiment, and the first journal of the new Regiment was published in January 1967. Initially the journal was produced in twelve monthly issues, of 50-70 pages each, but in 1968 the format changed to four quarterly issues, each containing 90-112 pages. In 1973 it was decided to publish only two issues per year, in June and December, each containing about 80 pages, and this is the current format.
