DescriptionRussian actress Lydia Yavorska was born Lydia Borisovna de Hubbenet in Kiev c1871. She married Prince Bariatinsky in 1896 but the marriage was dissolved in 1916. In 1909, living in England, she took the London stage by storm and she is credited with introducing 'Anna Karenina' to the engish stage. She also became a suffragette and fashion icon. After her return to Russia, she had to flee the Bolshevicks and she again returned to England. In 1920, she married Sir John Pollock, 4th Baronet Hatton, barrister and playwright; she became Lydia Lady Pollock. She died in Hove in 1921 and is buried in the churchyard of St Nicolas, Old Shoreham, her grave marked by a large unusual gravestone, copies of photographs of the grave are included in the collection.
