| Short title | Firewomen dispatch riders, Bognor Regis |
| Full description | Firewomen dispatch riders, Bognor Regis. Two young women sit astride their motobikes outside Bognor Regis Fire Station. The bike on the left has the registration number: CPJ68. The bike on the right has registration: GLY984. Both bikes have blackout masks on the headlights. The women wear uniform of hat, jacket, trousers, leather gloves and leather shoes. As dispatch riders for the fire service these women would have taken messages to and from the scene of an incident. Frank L'Alouette moved to Bognor in the 1920s. He worked in the photographic department of Cleeves, a High Street chemists. By the late 1920s he had set up his own photography business in Bognor. He opened premises in West Street in 1931 and became a successful local photographer. When war broke out in 1939 Frank was unable to join the forces due to medical reasons. Instead he sought a Ministry of Information permit to allow him to photograph wartime events in and around Bognor Regis. Wartime West Sussex 1939-45 Project.
