Short titleHorsted Keynes 'VE Tea', Haywards Heath, West Sussex
Full descriptionHorsted Keynes 'V.E. Tea', Haywards Heath, West Sussex. The children of Horsted Keynes are gathered together to celebrate the end of World War Two, Victory in Europe (May 8th 1945). Lots of the children are in fancy dress; some dressed up as nurses, soldiers or in school uniform. To the right of the crowd there is a child who is wearing a costume which has swastikas sewn on to it, and a child dressed as an adult (with cigarette hanging out of his mouth). A clown in spotted dress stands on each side of the group, and to the left there is also a man in a donkey costume. On the large banner above the group the words 'Village V.E. Tea' are sewn. This image is from an original print lent by Robert Smith.
