Full descriptionPilot watches men fill a fuel tank with beer for D-Day troops, Bognor Regis. A Norwegian pilot watches beer being transferred into modified auxiliary fuel tanks. the pilot sits on the wing in this flying uniform whilst the beer is piped from kegs into the fuel tanks by a man in a white overall and a member of the Home Guard writes XXX on the tanks. Immediately after D-Day Spitfire aircraft were used to fly beer out to invasion forces. It is thought this image is taken at Bognor because No. 132 ( Norwegian) Wing were based there over the D-Day period. Wartime West Sussex 1939-45 Project.
