Short title | Two girls and Home Guard with barbed wire on beach, Bognor Regis |
Full description | Two girls and Home Guard with barbed wire on beach, Bognor Regis. Pamela and Jeanette L'Alouette pose for a photo with their buckets and spades looking as if they want to visit the beach which is being guarded by three members of the Home Guard. Barbed wire also prohibits them from getting onto the beach and is also a preventive measure from invasion by the Germans. In the background can be seen the pier with the centre part removed to prevent it being used as a landing stage by the Germans. The Home Guard men wear uniform and carry guns. Pamela and Jeanette are the daughters of Frank L'Alouette, the photographer. Wartime West Sussex 1939-45 Project. Frank L'Alouette Collection by kind permission of his daughter Jeanette Hickman, now deposited at West Sussex Record Office. |
